Lindsay Logistics Large Capacity Cooling and Freezer Rooms

Scope of Work

We recently completed a major electrical scope for Lindsay Australia Ltd at their Hazelmere logistics warehouse. The job involved supplying and installing the main electrical infrastructure for their high-capacity cooling and freezer rooms. We partnered with the team at MECS to deliver power and controls for two trans-critical refrigeration systems.

Project Details

Assembling the Hardware Off-Site

We designed and supplied three custom boards for this facility. This setup included two new RSSBs and a splitter board to distribute feeds to the plant.

To save time, we bolted the RSSBs onto the compressor racks off-site at the MECS workshop. We finalised the frames with their crew so they were ready for immediate installation upon delivery.

Wiring the Main Cooling Systems

Once the hardware was on site, we spent several weeks wiring ten evaporators and completing the main cabling. The cold stores needed a lot of grunt to meet the required temperatures. The site runs two six-compressor setups to achieve this.

We installed variable speed drives on the lead compressors. This approach gives the end user better control and improves overall energy efficiency.

Final Connections and Commissioning

The last stage of the build involved connecting the gas coolers. We also terminated the cables to the desuperheaters. Getting these final terminations sorted meant the mechanical equipment was fully tied in.

Project Challenges and Solutions

Beating the Massive Floor Plan

A commercial building of this size requires careful planning just to keep the work moving. Before we even picked up our tools, we had to lock in our delivery scheduling. Getting the hardware dropped exactly where it was needed saved us from double-handling heavy equipment across a massive warehouse floor.

Managing Carbon Dioxide Safety

Using carbon dioxide for refrigeration presents specific safety demands compared to standard liquids. Because it operates at high pressures and poses a risk in confined spaces, we integrated a full leak detection network.

We wired up dedicated monitoring units throughout the cool rooms. If a leak occurs, the panels will alert the managers and shut down the affected zones.

Client Feedback

It’s always a good feeling packing up after a project like this. We handed over a fully powered and protected electrical installation that meets the heavy operational demands of the client. The distribution centre is now running well and keeping their cold chain moving.
