Perth Hospital Electrical work

Scope of Work

MECS completed the mechanical electrical installation for a new central energy plant at a large Perth hospital. The project required installing free-issued building main switchboards and mechanical services switchboards. The system was designed to handle a load exceeding 3000 amps to power extensive facility equipment.

Project Details

High-Capacity Switchboard Installation

The installation phase centred on setting up the free-issued building main switchboards and MSSBs. This setup was necessary to safely distribute over 3000 amps across the new energy plant.

Central Plant Equipment Connection

Technicians wired three chillers alongside dedicated chilled water pumps, condenser water pumps, and cooling towers. Connecting this volume of heavy mechanical plant required precise cable management. The electrical scope scaled directly with the number of major plant items.

Ventilation and Air Handling Integration

The ventilation scope included wiring eight exhaust air fans and dedicated carpark supply systems. Crews also connected a central air handling unit and thirteen distributed fan coil units. Linking these units back to the main boards involved extensive, careful cable runs.

Project Challenges and Solutions

Coordinating High Equipment Loads

Connecting a high volume of mechanical plant within a single system increases electrical complexity. The sheer number of major plant items required careful coordination to ensure reliable power delivery. The installation team methodically managed the extensive electrical scope across the entire plant layout.

Managing Free-Issued Switchgear

Working with free-issued switchboards means integrating equipment procured by external parties into the primary system. The installation team had to align the supplied boards with the specific power requirements of the new central energy plant. Careful handling and integration were required to connect the high-amperage boards successfully.

Client Feedback

The mechanical electrical works successfully met the strict operational requirements of the hospital facility. The new central energy plant now operates with a reliable, well-distributed power supply.
